Course Description
Module 1 - Core Symptoms, Neurobiology, Functional Impact - 14 Minutes
In this module, we're going to explore the core symptoms of ADHD in adults, namely inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. And how these things differ from childhood presentations. You'll learn about the neurobiology behind ADHD, the role of dopamine and norepinephrine, and the challenges adults face in managing their symptoms in daily life.
Module 2 - Diagnosis, Evaluation, Differential Considerations - 24 Minutes
This module will cover essential evaluation techniques, including the use of structured tools like the DIVA and ASRS, the importance of identifying childhood onset symptoms and applying DSM 5 criteria to ensure accurate diagnosis. We'll also cover how to differentiate ADHD from other psychiatric conditions and consider comorbidities for complete evaluation.
Module 3 - Stimulant Medications for ADHD: Choosing the Right Approach for Adults Part 1 - 16 Minutes
In this module, we're going to dive deep into one of the most important aspects of treating ADHD in adults. Stimulant medications. Stimulants are the first-line treatment for ADHD in adults.
Module 4 - Stimulant Medications for ADHD: Choosing the Right Approach for Adults Part 2 - 21 Minutes
In the second part of our stimulant-focused module, we'll be building on what we've learned by addressing some of the more advanced and nuanced aspects of prescribing stimulants. This includes managing side effects, understanding the potential risks, and exploring alternative approaches when stimulants might not be enough.
Module 5 - Non-Stimulant Treatments for ADHD: Expanding the Therapeutic Toolbox - 23 Minutes
In this module, we'll be discussing the non-stimulant treatments available for ADHD in adults. While stimulants are the go-to for most patients, there are several reasons why you might consider a non-stimulant.
Module 6 - Non-Pharmacological Approaches to ADHD: Behavioral Strategies and Lifestyle Interventions - 15 Minutes
This module covers non-pharmacological treatments for ADHD in adults. Many patients need more than just medication to improve their daily functioning. Non-pharmacological interventions can help patients develop essential life skills, improve their time management, and reduce the stress that often comes with managing ADHD.
Module 7 - Managing Comorbidities - 14 Minutes
In this module, we'll explore some of the special considerations when treating adults with ADHD. Many adults with ADHD also experience co-occurring psychiatric conditions that complicate the diagnosis and treatment process. Anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders are among the most common comorbidities in ADHD, and addressing these conditions alongside ADHD is essential for successful management. We'll also touch briefly on special populations, including women and older adults, where ADHD may present unique challenges.
Module 8 - Long-Term Management - 5 Minutes
In this module, we'll focus on monitoring and long-term management of ADHD in adults. ADHD is a chronic condition, and ongoing management is essential for sustained improvement. It's not enough to simply prescribe medication and hope for the best.
